How to read the results

A repayment mortgage pays off both the interest and the loan itself, so the balance reduces to zero by the end of the term. An interest-only mortgage has lower monthly payments because you are only paying the interest — the original loan amount still has to be repaid at the end, and lenders will want to see a credible plan for doing that.

The figures here are an illustration based on a constant interest rate. They are not advice or a mortgage offer, and they do not include lender fees, valuation fees or insurance.
